First Evening in Banff

Banff is a nice little town.  It was pretty busy, but not nearly as busy as I thought it was going to be considering it was peak season.  This picture was taken outside of the downtown strip.

We stayed at a place called the Banff Caribou Lodge Spa on the outskirts of town.  Although the town issmall, the walk to downtown from the hotel was a good 15 minutes.  I wanted to have wild game for supper.  Someone at the hotel recommended the Maple Leaf restaurant, so that's where we went.

The restaurant had two levels, with the bottom occupied by a wedding party.  The interior was dark and decorated with rustic wooden objects.  I was quite hopeful until the waitress told me that they didn't serve caribou. The only wild game they had was the special of the day - prime rib of bison.  Well, I couldn't pass up that.  We had some meat and cheese appetizer with elk and other things that was very good, but when the main course came, it was a disappointment.  Well burnt on the outside and more rare than I would like in the inside.  I was going to send it back, but the waitress was nowhere to be found.  I was hungry, so I ate it.

On the way back from the restaurant we saw a deer or a caribou wandering the streets and eating from the garden of some houses - our first exposure to Banff wildlife.  Here are some other pictures from our first evening in Banff

I only wished this was supper!
